Some girlfriends and I participated in a healthy eating diet competition late last year. It was a super experience for all of us and a way to build healthy habits. While our focus was on good health we enjoyed the wonderful bonus of losing a good amount of weight as well.
I have decided to host a similar competition and it will be starting on May 24. It is open to any women that want to improve their health (please check with your doctor as needed before beginning this competition).
Here’s the details:

1. This competition will run for 8 weeks beginning on Monday May 24.
2. Women (only) will compete as pairs. The first step is finding your own partner…someone you want to be responsible for encouraging and assisting. Once you and your partner have committed to the competition e-mail me at sandeejspencer@gmail.com to let me know you are competing
3. Every pair that does NOT win the weekly competition will owe $5 per person for that week. Money for the first four weeks will be due at the end of Week 4 (June 21) and the money for the rest of the competition will be due after week 8 (July 19)
4. At the end of 8 weeks money will be taken from the pool to award prizes to the first, second and third place pairs.
5. If you join the competition, you are in it for the full 8 weeks. If an emergency arises and you or your partner must drop out of the competition you are responsible to find your own replacement.
6. Points are due every Monday by noon eastern standard time. If you do not report your points by noon Monday your points will not be considered for the weekly competition. Points not reported by Wednesday will not be included for the overall competition. No excuses- if you are unable to report your points make sure and get the information to your partner so she can report them for you.

Points break down:
2 points/day for eating 5 servings of fruits/veggies daily
- or 3 points/day if at least 3 of your 5-a-day come from vegetables.
3 points/day for getting 30 minutes of exercise
- or 5 points/day for getting 60 minutes of exercise. These points are only available 6 days/week (taking one day off is GOOD for you!).
2 points/day for tracking what you eat
5 points/day for no sweets. These points are only available 6 days/week leaving you one day to eat a sweet if you'd like. This will be especially important to help avoid binging.
2 points/day for drinking at least 48 oz. of water daily.
5 points/week for maintaining (not gaining) any weight
+ an additional 10 points/week for each pound you lose. If you gain weight you will not get points for maintaining or losing for that week. If you've had a week where you've gained weight you cannot count maintenance or losing weight points until you have re-lost what you gained.
5 points/month for each ½" you lose from your waist.
5 points/month for each ½" you lose from your hips.
5 points/day - Special challenge for the week - these challenges will vary and will be posted on the blog by Sunday evening. You are responsible to check what the weekly challenge is by Monday morning so that you have the maximum chance to earn challenge points each week.
Whether or not you have any weight to lose I'm hoping you will join us for a healthier and happier summer!
* Note: fractions of a pound will not be counted until you have reached a full pound lost

  5. Meredith- You get a weekly treat on this program. It works out well knowing you can manage to fit in special occasions.

Meredith and Cathy- tim is supposed to add the spread sheet. I'll let you know if he doesn't get a chance to do it.

  8. A few sweet tooth tips:

Here's a little help if your missing sugar.

    Raw Fudge:
    1 cup walnuts
6 mejool dates (pitted, soaked for at least an hour) (save the date water for sweetner)
1/4 c Shredded coconut (without sugar)
Hersheys baking chocolate (1 tblsp. or to taste)

Mix walnuts with dates to a paste (unless you like it chunky) then blend a little at a time (vita mix is great)
Then slowly add the rest of the ingredients
You can sweeten a little with a flovored stevia of your choice. Spread in pan and chill, then cut into bite size pieces to have throughout the week. You can also just make balls and roll in coconut.---- enjoy!

    Here's a great smoothie recipe:

    1 frozen banana
4 mejool dates (pitted and soaked)
1/2c cup of hemp milk (you can get it in a carton like rice milk)
    1 teas. cinnamon
vanilla flavored stevia - 1 or 2 drops or to taste.

    Blend well and enjoy.

Have a wonderful day everyone and here's a great thought: If you don't take care of your body where will you live? --Sue Mazzoni
